Nederlandse Organisatie voor Toegepast Natuurwetenschappelijk Onderzoek or TNO (Dutch Organization for Applied Scientific Research) is an independent, non-profit organization, established by law in 1932, with a focus on applied science to support companies and governments with innovative, practicable knowledge. The organization conducts contract research, offers specialist consulting services, and grants licences for patents and specialist software and enables new companies to market innovations. One of the main missions is to support innovations within the SMEs and strengthening their competitive capacity. TNO outreaches 15000 SMEs/year through various channels and acts as a technology enabler with over 2000 SMEs/year. TNO has a long history within designing, manufacturing and deploying standard and customized photonic components and systems in industrial environments. The independency and multidisciplinary knowledge allows choosing the best technology for a market driven application. In particular, TNO has been placed as a key enabler of novel photonic technologies by key market leaders, such as, ASML, NXP, SHELL, PHILIPS, European Space Agency (ESA) and many more.
